Westfield Local Heroes is a new community recognition and grants program. It identifies, recognises and celebrates people in the local community who promote social well-being and/or harmony through their work, programs or activities. The program asks for nominations of individuals who promote the social values of Family, Youth Opportunity and Inclusions.

Mill Park Rebelz Basketball Club Committee has nominated our very own  Anthony Dionis to be a Westfield Local Hero. Anthony needs your help to be a winner. If he is successful, $10,000 will be provided to Mill Park Rebelz to further fund the important work Anthony does for the community as the club president.

Anthony works tirelessly as Rebelz club president to provide an environment where any child, regardless of ability or skill, can feel safe, have fun, learn the importance of fair play, improve their fitness and feel valued. His boundless energy sees him volunteer his time to coach teams, mentor new coaches, conduct training, run committee meetings, organise coach training sessions and promote the values of the club whenever and wherever he can. In a time when youth disengagement often leads to negative circumstances, Anthony has created a club where young people feel included, needed and valued.

Anthony volunteers his time to actively promote and support the Rebelz Special Needs Basketball program, which is very close to his heart. Currently in its second season, this program involves children with disabilities and their parents to experience the fun of basketball.

A vote for Anthony, is not just a vote for the Rebelz kids and their families; it’s a vote for a more inclusive, harmonious community.
